The LeEco Le 1 Pro’s price has been reduced drastically. The former 300-400$ smartphone is now at less than 200$. Reason enough to test the LeTV X800 again. At the moment there is no other phone that offers such a powerful hardware for this price. LeTV Le 1 Pro provides a Snapdragon 810, 4GB RAM, a 2K display and a 13MP camera. In the following review you’ll find out how the alleged price-performance killer works in practice.
LeTV X800 in comparison
The LeTV Le 1 Pro is in the most disputed price range concerning China phones with its price of 160$. You will find a comparison the other top sellers in the following table:

In terms of hardware, the comparison shows that Le 1 Pro can easily keep up with other top smartphones. It offers at least a similarly powerful processor and RAM. Additionally, LeTV Le 1 Pro has a 2K display which none of the other phones in this price range can offer but yet, in daily use there is no significant difference.
Design and build quality
The LeTV smartphone appears to be very fine and stable. The processing quality of LeEco Le 1 Pro is excellent. Le 1 Pro’s metal casing seems to be made of one piece only. The volume control and power button are made of aluminium and are well-fixed in the casing. SIM cards (Nano & micro) can be inserted via a slot on the right side. There is no possibility to extend its storage. However, the 64GB provide sufficient space to save data. The USB type-C port is located at the smartphone’s bottom. With the display turned off, the bezel-free design makes the front seem to be only made of the display. Once the display is turned on, you will find a 3mm bezel frame. The camera, as well as the dual-flash, do not jut out of the casing. While holding the LeTV smartphone, it creates a premium feeling. This impression is enhanced by its weight of 179g. Considering the low price, the processing quality is fully convincing and can keep up with competitors like Xiaomi or other manufacturers.
LeEco Le 1 Pro scope of delivery
In LeEco Le 1’s box the following equipment is inclucded:
- Charging adapter + micro-USB cable
- Silicone cover
- SIM card PIN code
- Micro-USB adapter (USB-C -> micro-SD)
- Operating instructions (Chinese)
LeTV Pro offers a higher resolution compared to all other phones in this price range. It provides a 2K display with a 2560*1440 pixels resolution, resulting in a fantastic pixel density of 538ppi. It is completely impossible to recognize any single pixels on the display. Le 1 Pro’s display is not only perfect in terms of resolution, but also in brightness and colour representation. All contents are represented colourfast and luminously on the big display. The brightness is also sufficient to see well in bright sunlight. On the other hand, the outdoor use of LeTV X800 in bright sunlight is made difficult by the strongly reflecting display. The reading on the display can be recognized from any viewing angle without any problems. Furthermore, the phone has a great contrast.
LeEco Le 1 Pro’s touch screen is able to register up to 10 touching objects at once. Frequent mobile writers will benefit from the precise and fast-reacting touch screen. The phone also has a notification LED. Further, it is possible to customize display settings. Gorilla Glass 3 protects it from scratches.
LeEco Le 1 Pro uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 – its last year’s flagship. The CPU is supported by 4GB RAM. In Le 1 Pro’s price range it is impossible to purchase comparable hardware in Europe. Overall, the smartphone can be operated extremely fast and easy. There is no loading time during app opening and closing. Further, due to its big RAM, Le 1 Pro is able to access several apps at a time. Le 1 Pro consists of a more powerful hardware compared to Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro. Furthermore, Snapdragon 810 offers 25% more performance in benchmarks in comparison with Redmi Note 3 Pro’s Snapdragon 650. The GPU imbalance is even higher. Snapdragon is clearly surpassing the 650. The Antutu score of 96,000, as well as the 3D Mark Slingshot 3.1 of 10,050 points prove that Le 1 Pro ranks number one in its price range.
Last year, the strong heat generation and the related performance decline were a big problem of the Snapdragon 810. LeEco eliminates this problem. After one hour of gaming and following benchmarks (5*Antutu), the Le 1 Pro didn’t get hotter than 40°C. The performance decline of 4,000 points in the Antutu benchmark is completely reasonable. All high-end games currently available, such as Nova 3 or Asphalt 8, can be played smoothly.
The LeTV’s internal memory connected to the USB-C cable is extremely fast. It took the LeTV only 4.5 seconds to copy our 100MB test file. The 4GB RAM’s speed of 8.1GB/s is excellent. The internal memory with its reading/writing speed of 248/148MB/s is completely satisfying and thus confirms the fact that LeTV Le 1 Pro is using the fastest memory modules in the price level of less than 200$.
Within its price category Le 1 Pro offers the best hardware performance. Even the LeEco Le 2 and the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro can’t keep up with LeTV X800.
Android / EUI
LeEco Le 1 Pro uses LeEco’s user interface EUI which is based on Android 5. There is also an EUI beta version based on Android 6. However, it can take some time until the official release (STABLE). It is irrelevant that the LeEco does not have the latest Android version since the manufacturer changed the user interface EUI considerably in a way that you can’t tell significant differences. In terms of design the EUI system is a successful combination of Apple’s IOS and Android 6.
Taking a good look at LeEco’s EUI system, you will soon have fun using it and finding handy features. Like many Chinese user interfaces (e.g. MIUI), the system doesn’t have an app overview. One home screen is reserved for LeTV’s streaming offers, however, they can be deactivated easily. Any other launcher (e.g. Google Now Launcher) can be installed in order to secure a purer Android look. In general, the LeEco Le 1 Pro’s system functions fast, perfectly smooth and has a pleasing appearance.
The LeEco Le 1 Pro was primarily meant for the Chinese market. Therefore, it is delivered ex works without Google Playstore, only in English and Chinese. Yet most shops do install modified system software before delivery in which Google Playstore and a multitude of languages are preinstalled. This manually installed software usually works well. Currently the best software for Le 1 Pro is created by Android developer Cuoco92. It is based on LeEco’s original software but has some advantages:
- Slimmer and faster system due to the removal of all Chinese apps
- Google Playstore is preinstalled
- Wi-Fi updates directly on the phone
- Root privileges
Just as its little brother, LeEco 1 Pro offers a 13MP camera by Sony (IMX214) with an f/2.0 aperture. The camera provides a great sharpness and colour representation. Concerning the image quality, no other smartphone for less than 200$ can keep up with the LeEco Le 1 Pro. The colour representation in bright sunlight is excellent as well. Pictures taken by daylight with LeTV X800 make a compact camera unnecessary. Pictures taken indoors, as well as by night, are of good quality. The camera records videos in 4K resolution. The camera app offers several filters and setting options.
Compared to its rear camera, Le 1 Pro’s front camera is also convincing. Selfies are of perfect image quality and sharpness. Those seeking for a mobile phone with good camera performance are well-off with Le 1 Pro.
2G: GSM: B2/3/5/8
3G: WCDMA: B1/2/5/8 CDMA: BC0/1 TD-SCDMA: 34/39
4G: FDD-LTE: B1/3/7 TDD-LTE: B38/39/40/41
The LeTV Pro provides all 2G and 3G frequencies. LTE is also supported (1800/2100/2600MHz). Rumor on the internet has it that you can activate LTE Band 20 through entering “*#*#9439#*#*” in the telephone app. After testing different firmware, we discovered that even though CDMA was activated and stated to be connected to the 4G network, Le1 Pro is only a 3G connection. In case this situation changed, please leave a comment.
The LeTV’s reception is very strong. During the test, no connection problems occurred. The missing 4G reception does not pose a problem in urban areas. The voice transmission of both sides is of good quality. The earpiece’s volume is loud and the internal speaker also provides a good and steady sound.
The LeEco Le 1 Pro’s Bluetooth 4.1 and dual-band Wi-Fi reception are of equal high quality. With our Bluetooth earphones attached, the connection remained stable for up to 12 metres and there were no problems using Wi-Fi (dual-band). LeTV’s GPS is also performing well. Within a few seconds, the smartphone connects with a sufficient number of satellites to determine its position accurately. The compass is also working well. In addition, LeTV offers an IR remote control. Thanks to a gyroscope sensor, VR glasses can be used perfectly. This is also an advantage of the 2K display. Concerning the VR glasses, there is a noticeable difference from the Redmi Note 3 Pro.
The LeTV Pro hence has significant advantages when it comes to telephone calls and connectivity.
The LeEco Le 1 Pro X800 provides a 3,000mAh battery. Considering the 5.5-inch 2K display, the capacity is only on average. Le 1 Pro’s on-screen-time lasts 3 hours. The capacity should therefore be sufficient for most users. Users looking for a 2-day-lasting smartphone, however, are ill-served with LeEco Le 1 Pro. Nevertheless, the phone is fully charged in 80 minutes thanks to its quick-charge adapter.
If your LeTV Le 1 Pro has low battery life problems, you can try the following trick: Enter the code *#*#4636#*#* in the telephone app. Choose “phone info” and select “TD-SCDMA, GSM/WCDMA and LTE” at “set preferred network type”.
The Le 1 Pro performs a fantastic comeback. With a price starting from 160$, the phone offers excellent hardware which is hardly delivered by any competitor. Three points are particularly useful. First of all, Le 1 Pro offers an outstanding 2K display consisting of Gorilla Glass 3. Secondly, the camera is probably the best one used in a smartphone costing less than 200$. Finally, Snapdragon 810 offers the best hardware performance in this price range with its 4GB RAM and fast memory modules. The only deficit is the Android 5 based EUI system. Generally speaking, we can clearly recommend LeEco Le 1 Pro.
